Leib­niz-Zen­trum für Agrar­land­schafts­for­schung e.V. - HR

The mis­sion of the Leib­niz Centre for Agri­cul­tural Land­scape Research (ZALF) as a nation­ally and inter­na­tion­ally act­ive research insti­tute is to deliver solu­tions for an eco­lo­gic­ally, eco­nom­ic­ally and socially sus­tain­able agri­cul­ture – together with soci­ety. ZALF is a mem­ber of the Leib­niz Asso­ci­ation and is loc­ated in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Ber­lin-Lichten­berg). It also main­tains a research sta­tion with fur­ther loc­a­tions in Dede­low and Pau­lin­enaue.

ZALF con­trib­utes sev­eral sub­pro­jects to the col­lab­or­at­ive pro­ject "Bon­aRes" (Soil as a Sus­tain­able Resource for the Bioeconomy,, fun­ded by the Ger­man Fed­eral Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Research. Within this con­text, a repos­it­ory for data from Long-Term Field Exper­i­ment (LTE) has been estab­lished as part of the lar­ger Bon­aRes Repos­it­ory for land­scape and soil research data. It includes a geor­e­fer­enced web applic­a­tion with com­pre­hens­ive LTE meta-data inform­a­tion, GIS and mod­el­ling activ­it­ies using the spa­tial/tem­poral and LTE data at dif­fer­ent scales.

We are offer­ing a part-time pos­i­tion (up to 60 hour/month) lim­ited until 31.12.2022, start­ing as soon as pos­sible at our loc­a­tion in Müncheberg as

Stu­dent Assisstant (m/f/d)

to assist in facil­it­at­ing the Bon­aRes Pro­ject

Working field:

  • Acquis­i­tion and pre-pro­cessing of spa­tial (e.g., remote sens­ing, EO) and tem­poral (i.e. cli­mate) data.
  • Assist­ing mod­el­ling activ­it­ies on soil-car­bon dynam­ics, cli­mate change impact and scen­ario ana­lyses
  • Search­ing and review­ing peer-reviewed sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions
  • Sup­port­ing sci­entific pub­lic­a­tions of the group in peer-reviewed journ­als


  • Bach­elor or Mas­ter’s degree in envir­on­mental sci­ence, geo­graphy, or related sub­jects
  • Exper­i­ence in GIS ana­lysis and soft­ware (Arc­GIS, QGIS, etc.)
  • Famili­ar­ity with Long-Term Field Exper­i­ments
  • Know­ledge of envir­on­mental mod­el­ling (soil-water, biogeo­chem­ical) is rel­ev­ant
  • Excel­lent writ­ten and oral com­mu­nic­a­tion skills in Eng­lish, pro­fi­ciency in Ger­man is bene­fi­cial.
  • Abil­ity to work inde­pend­ently as well as in a team
  • Flex­ib­il­ity and will­ing­ness to grasp new inter­dis­cip­lin­ary top­ics
