RWTH Aachen - Computational Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering

You will be working in a diverse project team at the Computational Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering Group (CGRE) at RWTH Aachen University. Funded in 2017 and led by Prof. Florian Wellmann, CGRE is a growing institute located at the interface between the geosciences, computer science, engineering and mathematics.

In addition, we currently plan founding a start-up company in the second year of the project and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in this start-up. 

VR/AR Frontend Software Developer (w/m/d)

Work­ing field:

Com­bi­ning the latest deve­lop­ments in geo­lo­gi­cal model­ling with Aug­men­ted Rea­lity holo­gra­phic tech­no­logy, the goal of the FAR­MIN pro­ject is to create a spa­ti­ally-aware col­la­bo­ra­tive solu­tion
that allows pro­fes­sio­nals to visua­lize and inter­act with geo­lo­gi­cal and geo­phy­si­cal data and models in the field. The in-situ holo­gra­phic view of data and models offers a new level of immer­sion and recep­tion with huge advan­ta­ges for com­mu­ni­ca­tion of very com­plex sce­n­a­rios. Con­ti­nuous ground-trut­hing, on-the-fly data inte­gra­tion and pro­ba­bi­listic machine lear­ning approa­ches will help reduce geo­lo­gi­cal uncer­tainty for impro­ved decision making. You will be in charge of front-end pipe­line, this inclu­des for instance: (i) mana­ging the cli­ent side of the solu­tion, (ii) UI design and deve­lop­ment, (iii) ren­de­ring fide­lity and (iv)multi-devices opti­mi­za­ti­ons.


App­li­cants must have a doc­to­rate/Ph.D. or equi­va­lent.
We look for an out­stan­ding can­di­date with pro­ven know­ledge in pro­gramming and com­pu­ter gra­phics. Uni­ver­sity qua­li­fi­ca­ti­ons in the fields of com­pu­ter sci­ence and/or earth sci­ence will be highly weighted. Excel­lent writ­ten and spo­ken Eng­lish lan­guage skills are a requi­re­ment. In addi­tion, soft­ware manage­ment and design will be of great help since the hori­zon­tal pro­ject orga­ni­za­tion scheme.
Fami­lia­rity on the fol­lo­wing topics will be greatly valued:
  • UX-front end deve­lop­ment,
  • Game engi­nes, in spe­cial Unity,
  • VR/AR,
  • C#.

To a les­ser extent, the fol­lo­wing skills will be con­si­de­red posi­tively:
  • .NET expe­ri­ence,

What we of­fer:

The posi­tion is for 3 years and is to be fil­led by Janu­ary 1, 2020. We offer a three year full posi­tion as a regu­lar employee at RWTH Aachen Uni­ver­sity. Part-time employ­ment is pos­si­ble on request. This is a full-time posi­tion. It is also avail­able as part-time employ­ment per request.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
