The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate / PhD Stu­dent / Post­doc

Since 2012, Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den (TUD) is a part of the elec­ted group of ele­ven Uni­ver­si­ties of Excel­lence in Ger­many. Fur­ther­more, the Dres­den loca­tion con­ta­ins "Sili­con Sax­ony" the lar­gest micro­elec­tro­nics clus­ter in Europe.

In the frame of the pro­gramme “Auto­ma­tion and Net­wor­ked Traf­fic”, fun­ded by the Federal Minis­try of Trans­port and Infra­struc­ture, wit­hin the pro­ject ATLAS60G for deve­lo­ping a novel posi­tio­ning sys­tem for car based on radar tech­no­logy, the Chair of Cir­cuit Design and Net­work Theory (CCN) wit­hin the Insti­tute of Cir­cuits and Sys­tems (IEE) has, sub­ject to resour­ces being avail­able, a job vacancy for a Rese­arch Asso­ciate / PhD Stu­dent / Post­doc
(sub­ject to per­so­nal qua­li­fi­ca­tion employees are remu­n­e­ra­ted accord­ing to salary group E 13 TV-L) star­ting at the next pos­si­ble date and initi­ally limi­ted until 30.11.2020. The period of employ-ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – Wiss­ZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD / habi­li­ta­tion the­sis).
The Chair of Cir­cuit Design and Net­work Theory is a lea­ding rese­ar­cher in the area of inte­gra­ted cir­cuit design and is dedi­ca­ted to the design and model­ling of highly effi­ci­ent real-time ana­lo­gue and mixed-signal cir­cuits. During the last decade, the chair achie­ved several world records and awards. The chair is led by Prof. Ellin­ger, who recei­ved the Voda­fone Inno­va­tion Award in 2016, and cont­ri­bu­tes with their exper­tise in the areas of wire­less com­mu­ni­ca­tion, posi­tio­ning and radar sys­tems, mil­li­me­ter wave cir­cuits and mixed-signal and con­trol cir­cuits to nume­rous natio­nal and inter­na­tio­nal rese­arch pro­jects.
Wit­hin the pro­ject ATLAS60G, a posi­tio­ning tech­no­logy will be deve­lo­ped which can track vehi­cles in real time. App­li­ca­ti­ons include self-par­king cars in areas without GPS cover­age such as par­king decks and under­ground car parks, where a posi­tio­ning accu­racy of only few cen­ti­me­ters is necessary.

Work­ing field:

Your task is the deve­lop­ment and opti­miza­t­ion of inte­gra­ted mil­li­me­ter wave cir­cuits for posi­tion-ing and radar sys­tems (low noise ampli­fiers, mixers, fil­ters, base band com­po­n­ents, power ampli­fiers, oscil­la­tors, phase-locked loops) and the assem­bly of a demons­tra­tor for the sys­tem. You will deve­lop radio fre­quency cir­cuit boards, cha­rac­te­rize cir­cuits in the mea­su­re­ment lab and engage in the inte­gra­tion and tes­ting of the deve­lo­ped com­po­n­ents. Fur­ther­more, you take part in inte­gra­tion and sys­tem tes­ting, cont­ri­bute to sys­tem spe­ci­fi­ca­tion, docu­men­ta­tion and pro­ject reports and publish your results in sci­en­ti­fic jour­nals and con­fe­ren­ces. You will also join pro­ject mee­tings. An active role in the manage­ment of the pro­ject is highly encou­ra­ged, espe­cially for post-gra­duate app­li­cants.


We are loo­king for a can­di­date with a very good or good uni­ver­sity degree and if app­lica­ble – a doc­to­rate in electri­cal engi­nee­ring, com­mu­ni­ca­ti­ons or infor­ma­tion tech­no­logy with deepe­ned know­ledge in ana­lo­gue cir­cuit design, espe­cially mil­li­me­ter wave cir­cuits. Skills are espe­cially nee­ded in CAD based simu­la­tion and cir­cuit lay­out. Inte­rest for new tech­no­lo­gies, inde­pen­dent and fle­xi­ble way of working, com­mu­ni­ca­tion and team­work skills, good Eng­lish, inno­va­tive and ana­lyti­cal thin­king and high com­mit­ment are expec­ted.
