Uni­versity Pro­fessor - salary grade W3

for the field of "Rail Oper­a­tions and lnfra­struc­ture" (,,Bahn­be­trieb und Infrastruk­tur").

Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship com­prises research and teach­ing in the area of rail oper­a­tions and rail infra­struc­ture. This includes:

  • Fur­ther devel­op­ment of sig­nal­ing, espe­cially European Train Con­trol Sys­tems (ETCS)
  • Stra­tegic invest­ig­a­tions to optim­ize pub­lic trans­port and rail freight to increase effi­ciency; key term: reg­u­lar inter­val timetable
  • Optim­iz­a­tion of rail­way oper­a­tions and net­work util­iz­a­tion in order to ful­fill the demand of poli­cy­makers that more freight be trans­por­ted by rail
  • Lay­out and infra­struc­ture plan­ning includ­ing sta­tions in con­junc­tion with oper­a­tional and con­struc­tion meas­ures to reduce noise from rail traffic

Teach­ing will be required in the exist­ing Bach­elor and Mas­ter courses, pre­dom­in­antly in the Ger­man lan­guage.


Suc­cess­ful applic­ants must ful­fil the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a uni­versity degree and work­ing exper­i­ence in the field of rail­ways, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (doc­tor­ate in the field of rail­ways), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be proven by teach­ing exper­i­ence and visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for more inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick access no. 144242). The area of research should allow co-oper­a­tions with the cur­rent pro­fess­or­ships at the Insti­tute of Land and Sea Trans­port Sys­tems as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in cur­rent and future col­lab­or­at­ive research activ­it­ies with national and inter­na­tional repu­ta­tion.
Applic­ants must have teach­ing exper­i­ence at uni­versity level. lt is fur­ther expec­ted that the applic­ant holds a strong level of prac­tical exper­i­ence in the field of rail­ways, prefer­able with lead­er­ship exper­i­ence and proven work exper­i­ence in the fields of rail oper­a­tions, laws, con­struc­tion of rail­ways sys­tems and sig­nalling boxes. Ped­ago­gic and edu­ca­tional cap­ab­il­it­ies need to be presen­ted.
