University Professor - salary grade W3
for the field of "Rail Operations and lnfrastructure" (,,Bahnbetrieb und Infrastruktur").
The professorship comprises research and teaching in the area of rail operations and rail infrastructure. This includes:
Further development of signaling, especially European Train Control Systems (ETCS)
Strategic investigations to optimize public transport and rail freight to increase efficiency; key term: regular interval timetable
Optimization of railway operations and network utilization in order to fulfill the demand of policymakers that more freight be transported by rail
Layout and infrastructure planning including stations in conjunction with operational and construction measures to reduce noise from rail traffic
Teaching will be required in the existing Bachelor and Master courses, predominantly in the German language.
Successful applicants must fulfil the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a university degree and working experience in the field of railways, qualified achievements in research (doctorate in the field of railways), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification and pedagogical didactic qualifications, to be proven by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for more information see TUB Website, quick access no. 144242). The area of research should allow co-operations with the current professorships at the Institute of Land and Sea Transport Systems as well as participation in current and future collaborative research activities with national and international reputation.
Applicants must have teaching experience at university level. lt is further expected that the applicant holds a strong level of practical experience in the field of railways, preferable with leadership experience and proven work experience in the fields of rail operations, laws, construction of railways systems and signalling boxes. Pedagogic and educational capabilities need to be presented.
