Research Associate (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, the Chair of Digitalized Forestry Processes and Systems is seeking to fill a project position as part of the BMBF/FNR-funded project “LogChain – Use of blockchain technology for transparent documentation and digitalization of process chains in roundwood logistics.”
Research Associate (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting at the next possible date. The position is limited until September 30, 2028, with 75% of full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG)
We are looking for an analytical expert whose training enables them to understand logistical processes mathematically, develop digital models, and evaluate the results quantitatively.

Working field:

— co-development and implementation of a blockchain-based solution for timber logistics
— development of logical traceability of timber products along the forest-timber chain
— integration of timber harvesting and satellite data for precise georeferencing of transactions
— evaluation of forestry practices: You analyse and evaluate the efficiency, ecology, and economic viability of digitally supported timber harvesting and logistics chains
— data collection as part of the project
— you will work closely with forestry practitioners, forestry companies, and machine manufacturers to ensure the transfer of research results into application
— publishing and presentations at international conferences

Requirements:

— a completed university degree in business informatics, industrial engineering, geoinformatics, applied computer science, forestry sciences, or equivalent knowledge
— experience in logistics, supply chain management, or operations research
— knowledge of data processing
— Ready-to-use programming skills in at least one scripting language
— teamwork skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently
— have fun trying something new
— willingness to undertake further training
Desirable:
— very good English skills
— knowledge of German (minimum B2)
— knowledge of a higher-level programming language
