Working field:

Research and development for assembly and connection technology with focus on micro-optical systems for optical data communication, medical technology, quantum technology and sensor technology.

The work at TU Berlin focusses on the development
  • Conception, design and development of innovative system solutions for the construction of microsystems for photonics
  • Planning and implementation of tests on the system and subsystem level of opto-electronic components and assemblies, especially on thin glass
  • Co-design and simulation of the photonic components and systems using e.g. Ansys / Lumerical
  • Development of Process Design Kits (PDK) and Assembly Design Kits (ADK)
  • Evaluation, documentation and publication of research results


  • Successfully completed scientific university degree (Mater, Diplom or equivalent) in physics, microsystem technology, physical engineering, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:
o Experience and knowledge in the field of bonding (e.g. laser bonding, metallic interconnection technology, glueing)
o Experience and knowledge in the field of micro-assembly using pick & place devices
o Design and simulation of optical and opto-electronic components / systems and use of simulation and design tools (Ansys / Lumerical, COMSOL, etc.)
o Test and characterization of optical and opto-electronic components and systems
  • Very good German and good English skills (oral and written)

Desirable would be experience/knowledge:
  • Experience in project management and project acquisition
