The Bundes­an­stalt für Mater­i­alforschung und -prü­fung (BAM) is a mater­i­als research organ­iz­a­tion in Ger­many. Our mis­sion is to ensure safety in tech­no­logy and chem­istry. We per­form research and test­ing in mater­i­als sci­ence, mater­i­als engin­eer­ing and chem­istry to improve the safety of products and pro­cesses. At BAM we do research that mat­ters. Our work cov­ers a broad array of top­ics in the focus areas of energy, infra­struc­ture, envir­on­ment, mater­i­als, and ana­lyt­ical sci­ences.

Working field:

  • work in the ZIM research pro­ject ATLAMP - Act­ive Ther­mo­graphy with laser excit­a­tion for in-situ detec­tion of defects dur­ing addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing in metal powder bed fusion
  • assist­ance in setup and com­mis­sion­ing of a powder-based metal 3D-printer
  • con­duct and data-driven ana­lysis of exper­i­ments
  • pro­gram­ming of ana­lysis routines (Python/Mat­lab)
  • con­trol and oper­a­tion of cam­era sys­tems
  • assist­ance in the setup of a plant- and machine con­trol


  • stu­dent in major or mas­ter study in the field of study mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing, mechat­ron­ics, pro­cess engin­eer­ing, elec­trical engin­eer­ing, engin­eer­ing sci­ence, aerospace engin­eer­ing, com­puter sci­ence, phys­ical tech­no­logy or com­par­able
  • very good pro­gram­ming skills in Python, Mat­lab
  • exper­i­ence in con­trol engin­eer­ing
  • flu­ent in Ger­man and/or Eng­lish
  • pro­found usage of MS Office
  • exper­i­ence in laser- and cam­era tech­no­logy desired
  • exper­i­mental skills and interest in pho­to­graphy pre­ferred
