The Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls (IFAS) of RWTH Aachen University is one of the largest institutions of its kind involved in the research of all aspects of fluid power. Apart from mechanical engineering, the research comprises other topics, such as information technology, servo-control engineering, electrical engineering, tribology and chemistry.

A motivated team of aspiring young scientists takes on the challenges presented by this diversified field of study. The intensive national and international contacts established between the institute and the manufacturers / users of fluid power components and systems, as well as other research facilities, ensure that its activities always comply with upcoming demands. 

Research Assistant/Associate

Work­ing field:

Your assi­gn­ment con­sists of self-res­pon­si­ble, tar­get-ori­en­ted pro­ject rea­liza­t­ion of publi­cly and indus­tri­ally fun­ded rese­arch pro­jects in the field of fluid power com­po­n­ents and sys­tems. This inclu­des plan­ning, coor­di­na­tion, exe­cu­tion and pre­sen­ta­tion of pro­ject results along with your (indus­trial) part­ners. Fur­ther­more you engage in the deve­lop­ment and acqui­si­tion of new rese­arch and indus­trial pro­jects as well as the buil­dup and sup­port of con­tacts to indus­trial com­pa­nies and rese­arch faci­li­ties. You carry out indus­trial assi­gn­ments in the fluid power sec­tor and are inclu­ded into teaching.

Require­ments:

  • Excel­lent mas­ter’s degree (or com­pa­ra­ble) in mecha­ni­cal engi­nee­ring, indus­trial engi­nee­ring or com­pu­ta­tio­nal engi­nee­ring
  • Ana­lyti­cal skills, quick per­cep­tion and inte­rest in aca­de­mic pro­jects
  • Well orga­ni­zed, tar­get-ori­en­ted and res­pon­si­ble work approach
  • Team player and effi­ci­ent com­mu­ni­ca­tion
  • Con­fi­dent and pro­fes­sio­nal appearance
  • Flu­ent in Eng­lish. Ger­man lan­guage know­ledge or the wil­ling­ness to deve­lop this is man­da­tory.
  • Inte­rest in expe­ri­men­tal work and basic expe­ri­ence with simu­la­tion tools (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS, Mat­lab, …) are advan­ta­ge­ous.

What we of­fer:

The posi­tion is 1,5 years and is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble. A con­tract exten­sion for 3.5 fur­ther years with the aim of a doc­to­ral dis­ser­ta­tion is inten­ded. This is a full-time posi­tion.

The suc­cess­ful can­di­date has the oppor­tu­nity to pur­sue a doc­to­ral degree.

The salary cor­re­sponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
